Under the terms of the 20-month contract, the two firms will supply two boilers producing 700 tonnes per hour of steam, related auxiliary equipment and selective catalytic reduction systems for nitrous oxide reduction, particulate removal, fly-ash handling and wet limestone flue gas desulphurisation. The project is the first time that boilers on a grassroots petrochemical complex will use crude oils as a fuel in the kingdom. Together with the associated flue gas treatment, the move will ensure emissions are kept at levels set by the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu. With an estimated development cost of $8,000 million, Saudi Kayan, which comprises 13 separate downstream units, will be the largest stand-alone petrochemicals complex ever built.
